New custom firmware MS Harmony Pack v1.3 (March-2011)

Hello everybody

New firmware/apps for our LG: MS400H/MS450H MS408D/MS409D

Name of new firmware: MS Harmony Pack (March-2011) v1.3 [MS Multimedia Station]

Thanks to keltek, and group Testers.

We launch today what we think is the best firmware for our equipments.

[As alwasy we are not responsible for any damage your equipment might suffer,
or any loss of files.]

Main points:
- PipeManagement (PM) v3.5
- lgmenu v.107
- BusyBox v1.18.2 (2011-02-24 22:33:28 CET)
- Last official main app : DvdPlayer (MS400_110113_0150)

Firmware is available at:

You have to decompress it, and you will get 2 files:
These are Firmware (.img) and custom-package (.tar.gz)

Installation:
1. Put those 2 files in a usb stick.
- MS400_110113_0150.img
- Custom-KV-v107-VII.tar.gz

2. Boot LG, with this usb stick connected, while you press the red button at the from (no the reset) for 10 seconds.

3. After some minutes of installation of firmware, you will have the init window; just now, it will start the second part of installation,
do not remove usb stick. Files from usb will be copied, so, you will have to wait 2 minutes, until LG reboot itself.

4. Now again in init winfow, you can now configure the network, and that it is all.

I have a problem and I would like some help.

Here is the story :

I installed the new Harmony pack on my MS-400H two/three days after its release, so most of you would have the time to find an obvious bug.

I had installed version 1.2 and was stuck with infinite reboot after 30 days of use.
So I went back to official firmware waiting for you to fix v1.2.

For a few days the device was up and running all day long, nobody switched it off and it went perfectly, recording and ready to use each and every time. Then Sunday ... the picture was black... but it was responsive, I could switch channel, so I switched it off and On.

The MS400 ask me if I am OK to format the HDD ???
the HDD is in the device since the beginning and has been used to record a dozen of programs
I said NO !

I switched it off and On again (must do)
Same question
the HDD doesn't appear in the menu, it is as if it has never been installed.

I switched off the MS400 and removed the HDD
I plugged it on my PC (Win7).
The HDD is not compliant and refuse to work directly, but I could see the few partitions made by the MS400.
But I can't read it and I sure can't get access to the recording that has been done on it.

It is a Western Digital 2To WD AV GP / WD 20EURS
I had no problem whatsoever to install or use it in the MS400.
I can't figure why it is not responding correctly now.

Am I the only one in this situation ?
Is the Pack 1.3 responsible ?
Is the HDD defective ?
Does any one know a way to get access to the recording I did previously on this HDD ?

I had some other HDD so I installed another one in the MS400.
What can I do ?

sorry, my english is bad.

I think, if I understand you well, that I have had a similar problem few weeks ago.
I can solve that using the program "GetDataBack for NTFS" to restore all my recorded program and downloaded files.
My problem was that I have a lot of file but I have no response with ms450. I can only see, after conecting the hard disc directly to my PC by usb, that my files was there because it shaw me the used space of my files (but not my files).
Hope that can help you and sorry for my english (Spanish, French, Italian are ok but english....)

J'ai dowloadé le logiciel et l'ai installé.
Le HDD n'est plus détecté, je n'arrive pas à y avoir accès.
Le logiciel ne voit pas le HDD non plus.

D'abord voyons si tu as le même problème que moi.
Ce qui m'est arrivé est la chose suivante:
Je ne pouvais plus détecter mon Disc dur, ni directement sur mon ms450, ni a travers dlna ou samba ou quoi que se soit.
Ce que j'ai fait:
Enlevé le disc dur du ms450 et le conecté directement, par usb, sur mon pc.
A partir de lá j'ai constaté que mon disc dur avait 200 gigas occupés ce qui correspondait à ce que j'avais téléchargé et enregistré. Par contre je ne pouvais pas voir ce qu'il y avait sur mon disc dur. Je ne savais que ça, il y avait quelquechose sur mon disc dur. Mais je ne savais pas quoi avec certitude ni dans quel état.
Grâce à ce programe j'ai pu tout récupéré en envoyant tout sur un autre disc dur puis j'ai formaté le disc qui avait foiré puis j'y ai tout recopié dessus. Tout est maintenant ok.
Est-ce aussi ce qui t'es arrivé? Si non, explique-moi exactement ton problème tout en sachant que mes connaissance d'informatique ne sont pas de haut niveau. Mais on sait jamais...Parceque tout perdre, c'est vraiment pas drôle!!

Merci pour le temps que tu me consacres.

apres etre passe au nouveau pack 1.3, la machine est restee allumee sans interruption, seul la TV etait arretee et allumee.
Un soir, j'allume la TV et la, pas d'image.
je zappe et la machine repond, aucun probleme elle change bien le canal mais ne me donne pas d'image.
Situation classique --> j'eteinds et je rallume.
l'image revient mais la becane me demande si c'est OK de formater le HDD.
je dis non.
je vais dans le menu et effectivement le HDD n'est plus initialise, la machine ne peut rien y lire.
Alors j'eteinds et je rallume.

Mais rebelote, le meme message apparait.
j'etiends et je sors le HDD de son rack.
je le branch en USB sur mon PC Win7.
le HDD a beaucoup de mal a demarrer et le PC beaucoup de mal a l'installer.
ca me freeze meme le PC pendant un moment.
je lance le gestionnaire de HDD et voit quelque chose d'aussi bizarre que le comportement du HDD le laisse deviner
le HDD apparait deux fois :
une fois comme brut, non initialise, sans partition, "inactif"
une deuxieme fois avec toutes les partitions, mais la plus grosse n'est pas reconnue comme un type de format valable

Du coup, je ne savais plus quoi faire et me suis demande si le bug etait connu ou si j'etais le seul cretin avec ce probleme.

J'ai installe le logiciel selon ton conseil mais le Win7 n'arrive plus a montrer les partitions du HDD, le disque est "non intialise" et le logiciel ne detecte pas le HDD.

Voila pour ma part.
Il me semble que ce n'est pas tres proche de ce qu'il t'est arrive.
J'ai peur que mon HDD soit fautif et je pense que mes programmes sont perdus.

Pour le moment, le MS400, a part me donner acces aux chaines HD ... c'est un peu de la merde.
le pack harmony est tres buggé et ne garantit un fonctionnement basique.
Je suis plutot decu.

Effectivement, ton problème semble plus compliqué que le miens qui me paraissait déjà compliqué.
Je ne sais pas si tu peux trouver un programme meilleur pour récupéré les données de ton disc dur. Je ne connaissais pas Get Data avant de l'utilisé et pour ce que j'ai lu il a l'air très efficace pour ce genre de problèmes. Seulement si ton disc dur n'apparait même pas...
Difficil ton histoire.

I finally found time to try the newest MS Harmony pack, and it essentially killed my MS450H

I followed the setup approach:

Installation:
1. Put those 2 files in a usb stick.
- MS400_110113_0150.img
- Custom-KV-v107-VII.tar.gz

Done, worked.

2. Boot LG, with this usb stick connected, while you press the red button at the from (no the reset) for 10 seconds.

Done, worked. The display reads "UPDAT", the TV shows a nice "MS Harmony" picture

3. After some minutes of installation of firmware, you will have the init window; just now, it will start the second part of installation,
do not remove usb stick. Files from usb will be copied, so, you will have to wait 2 minutes, until LG reboot itself.

Here, the problem starts: The devices display says "INIT", the TV shows that menu language is set to French, and it gets into the next menu option, which is "Region" with sub-items "Australie" and "Europe", Europe being selected. I can hear the hard disk doing something (so I guess files are copied to it), but the device does not reboot itself. Even after waiting a very very long time, nothing more happens. And: I also cannot do anything in the menu: although I can move the selection between Europe and Australia with the up/down keys directly at the device, I cannot confirm the selected (pressing the round button does not do anything). Also, the remote control does not work. So am I essentially stuck, and nothing happens any more

When I turn off the device after 30min or whatever and re-boot it without the USB stick, I have the non-working remote control, so still cannot do anything; in particular I cannot finalize the settings so that I have no network.

I tried various things to get the device fixed again (re-download, install from a different USB stick, remove second hard disk during upgrade, etc.), but nothing works.

So: no remote control, no network connection, no nothing. The device is close to what people call "bricked"

I even tried to go pack to Noveber Harmony Pack, and this also does not work!

Any ideas what is / was going wrong? Any other ideas? Can I try to go back to original LG firmware? Where can I find this?

Please follow these instructions:
- copy only the image to empty USB disk
- insert USB disk and perform flash (keep pressing record on front page of PVR and restart the PVR, after the LG logo appear on screen you can stop pressing the record button)
- after flash, perform initialization of PVR (set the network, language, format HDD and don't forgot to set the destination for recordings to have on internal HDD)
- if this all works, now copy the custom package to USB
- put the USB disk to PVR and reboot the PVR (please use the power on/off button)
- now the system is starting and the package should be installed - during the installation the system is under heavy load and the remote control cannot respond, installation should take less than 5 minutes and after it the PVR is rebooted automatically
- if there is no reboot, there is an error or you have custom package previously installed

thanks for your help - it seems to have worked, finally.

I re-installed the original firmware, did all the settings, and checked that the device was working again properly - puh, "unbricked" it :-) Although all settings and in particular all programmed recordings are gone now. But I can live with that...

I then re-tried to install the new Harmony Pack. Again, it did not turn off at the very end, but it seems now that everything is working nevertheless. Remote works again, I can set up the network, I can access LG menu in the browser, etc.

So it seems as if re-installing the original firmware before the new Harmony Pack fixed whatever was wrong before.

Is there any way I can check why there was no re-boot at the very end? E.g. manually run the respective script files in a telnet session and check for any error messages?

Yes, after you have passed the installation process and the system is not restarting, you can log-in to PVR and check the /tmp/hddmedia/lg where the pack is copied and unpacked. There is script performUpdate.sh which do the job.
But you can check the log file /tmp/hddservice.log, where all the messages while the system is updating is logged.

Hi,
I just tried it, and it does not really reveal anything interesting - the log file only has 3 lines regarding time until hdd present, and performUpdate.sh does not want to install because 107 is already installed. If I change the testing line in the script to be "-le" instead of "-lt" (i.e. <= instead of <), the script runs without error and the device reboots.

So the following may have happened in my case which could explain the behaviour

• first attempt to install new harmony pack: something is wrong with .img file or my device, which in particular kills remote (whatever that is). LGMenu 107 is copied onto hard disk, but due to whatever-was-wrong before performUpdate does not run correctly
  
• result: device quasi-bricked
  
• original firmware installation works; LGMenu107 remains on hard disk, but obviously is not used in original firmware
  
• second attempt to install new harmony pack: now everything works, in particular .img file, but performUpdate finds LGMenu107 on hard disk, therefore does not run and does not reboot device
  
• after manual reboot, everything is fine, because the new image was installed and it run the ("pre-existing") LGMenu107
  

Anyhow: I will keep the link to the original firmware in a safe place... it seems to be valuable (at least for my device) as a fall back, to re-start from original, just in case...

If you want to just reinstall the custom package, just remove the file
