Hello, this is not new, but i tell just in case it is usefull for someone.

I have internet via wifi (from neighbourhood 192.168.0.X),
and besises that i have LAN at home (192.168.2.X).

So, I have LG conected to internet by wifi.

I have checked that from LG's menu you cannot activated both interfaces (wifi, ethernet) at the same time.
But from using telent in command line, you can activate ethernet.

Steps:
0. configure first your wifi settings from LG menu.
1. connect to LG using telnet.
2. execute: ifconfig eth0 192.168.2.18 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.2.255
3. Ready, now you can connect to LG via wifi and ethernet.

For me I prefer ethernet, is much quicker.

In the last days, i have noted, that some times i lost the ethernet config,
so put the ifconfig line in autorun script.
Also, you can repeat the ifconfig .. line as many times as you want.

Hello Victor!

Just in case, I believe it could help some newcomers to add a step 0 that would be "configure your LG for Wifi connectivity via the tv menus".

Thanks & cheers!

Hi everyone!
I have one question: can I do this if I have the LG connected directly to the PC (not through a router, because it's pretty far form the LG)? Right now, if I want to connect via ethernet I have to go to Wired Lan Setup and connect manually. The IP address is 169.254.17.59, subnet mask 255.255.0.0, gateway 0.0.0.0 and DNS server 192.168.1.100

I think you can,
conect your pc directly with the LG without the use of a HUB or router.
You need a cross-over ethernet cable.
A normal ethernet cable will not work.

Hi count,

So on one hand you have a wireless connexion from your LG to your router, using the class C subnet 192.168.1.0, and you want to set an additionnal wired connexion from your LG to your PC, so that you can browse contents on the LG from your PC or vice versa?
That should be feasible, but you could face routing issues depending on what you are doing and/or what you are expecting.
If your PC is using a Class B 169.254.x.x address, this usually means it has no address and used y by default (Microsoft pool for such things). I would rather recommend that you force a specific address on your PC for this particular wired RJ45 Ethernet connexion, for example 192.168.32.1 mask 255.255.255.0 and that you force a similar address on the wired part of the LG, for example 192.168.32.2 mask 255.255.255.0, by issuing the command (if I understood well):

Código:
ifconfig eth0 192.168.32.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.32.255

Then you should be able to reach the PC from the LG and vice versa (but not further!! this requires routing to be enabled).

One last thing: in theory when connecting together end-user appliances, your should use a cross-cabled RJ45 and not a straight one, that you usually chose when connecting your LG or a PC to your router. Perhaps your PC or the LG is able to "cross" itself the connexion (most of the recent hubs do it) but it's better to know it, because if none does and if you use a straight cable, it won't work.

Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Matthieu

Ok, I think you misunderstood me. I have already set up both the wireless and the wired connections. For example, when I want to browse youtube or check for a new firmware, I turn on the wireless connection so i can access the internet, but when i want to transfer files from the PC and vice versa I go to manual wired lan setup with the above mentioned 169.xxxx address (when I try to connect automatically it says "DHCP failed"). So, both types of connections are working fine (although, when i try to transfer files larger than ~350MB from PC to LG via the web interface, the LG and Windows explorer both start crashing, but that's beside the point here). What i want to know is whether I can use the tutorial above to have the LG wirelessly connected to the router and wire-connected directly to the PC at the same time.

TUTORIAL: activate eth0 (Ethernet) Empty Re: TUTORIAL: activate eth0 (Ethernet)

Mensaje  matthelas el Jue Feb 18, 2010 5:53 pm

Hello,

Yes, you can, the tutorial is indeed written for people who want to activate their Ethernet connexion in addition to their wifi connexion...
You juste need to chose the right ip addresses for the LG ethernet connexion, typically:

Código:
ifconfig eth0 169.254.101.101 netmask 255.255.0.0 broadcast 169.254.255.255

You let your wifi running and issue this command after a telnet to the device (telnet IP_Adress_in_192.168.sthing, login: root, password: mugung), and both connexions should be working together till the next power off of your LG.

DHCP for your LAN is not handled by your PC nor by the LG, and this method only allow both to communicate but not to go further, so you can not reach the DHCP server on your WAN router (probably, if you have a ADSL box) for your LG LAN connexion, so you won't have any DHCP connexion.

Hope this helps,
Best regards,
Matt

TUTORIAL: activate eth0 (Ethernet) Empty Change MAC address

Mensaje  Apgad el Mar Oct 26, 2010 7:29 am

On a similar topic, I want to change the MAC address of the LG machine. Can I add the line "ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:00:00:00:02" to the startup script? If so, where do I find this?

first test the line, in the command line to check it executes as you wish.

Then put that in the start script which is: /usr/local/etc/rcS

be ready with a firmware in usb, as this script is the most important;
so take care, and do not enter strange chars, etc Wink

good luck
