3xRootApp, 4xPipeManagement, 29xDvdPlayer. Problem? Empty 3xRootApp, 4xPipeManagement, 29xDvdPlayer. Problem?

Hi all,

I've been trying to debug some random weirdness on my MS408d. When playing back something that has been recorded, every few minutes it randomly drops a frame or two, which causes everything to look garbled until the next keyframe.

Anyway, I noticed that there are 3 instances of RootApp, 4 instances of PipeManagement and 29 instances of DvdPlayer.

I'm not too worried about RootApp & PipeManagement; multiple instances is not weird for a bash script. It's the 29xDvdPlayer which has me stumped.

Strangely enough, it doesn't seem to affect the CPU or memory usage.

Swap:      160672            0      160672

I was just wondering if this was normal. Reboot doesn't fix it.

The problem was there on CUSTOM3. It was still there after I updated to Harmony 1.2, and again after updating to 1.2.1.

Hello :)
welcome to this forum.
yes, you do not have to worry, this is normal.

Those number of process you see in ps, in fact they are threads of the same applications.
As dvdplayer is a very complex program, instead of having a single thread for controlling everything,
it has different threads in control different things,
for instance, eg, one thread for controlling IR, another for the keyboard (buttons), etc.
this is normal in programs, in order to optimize the execution.

That makes sense. It's just like a "multithreaded" httpd which runs 16 instances of itself.

Thanks!
